On Saturday, ArcelorMittal Temirtau announced that at least 32 people have died, with 14 others still missing after a fire broke out in one of its mines. The company stated in a message, "206 people out of 252 present in the Kostenko mine were evacuated at the time of what appears to be a methane gas explosion, and 18 individuals sought medical assistance. As of 2 PM local time, 21 others had not been found." Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his condolences to the victims' families and ordered the government to halt investment cooperation with ArcelorMittal Temirtau. The government announced that it is finalizing an agreement to nationalize the company that operates the largest steel plant in the country.
