Today, the official newspaper "Tan Ninh" in Vietnam reported that four people were killed in a collapse at a coal mine in Quang Ninh mining center. The newspaper indicated that the incident occurred late Saturday night at a mine operated by a unit of the state-owned coal mining company Vinacomin. It stated that a rescue team retrieved the bodies of four miners. The newspaper did not mention the cause of the mine collapse. In March, a similar incident occurred at a mine operated by the same unit, but did not result in any fatalities. The Southeast Asian nation still heavily relies on coal-fired power plants as a source of energy. Vinacomin reported last year that mining accidents resulted in at least 17 miners' deaths in the first nine months of 2022.
