Billionaire Elon Musk predicted today, Friday, that his startup "Neuralink," which specializes in producing electronic chips that can be implanted in the brain, will begin its first human trial this year. Speaking at the Vivatech technology conference in Paris, Musk stated, "Neuralink, which I co-founded, intends to implant the chip in the brain of a patient with paraplegia or complete paralysis." Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla, the electric car company, and the social media platform Twitter, as well as SpaceX for space rockets, did not specify the number of patients who will receive the implants or the duration of the trials, but he said, "It seems that the first case will be later this year." Last month, Neuralink announced that it had received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct its first clinical trial on humans, marking a significant milestone for the startup at a time when it faces investigations in the U.S. regarding its practices in animal testing.
