The Lebanese University branch of the Youth and Students section of the Kataeb Party issued the following statement: "The Lebanese Kataeb cell at the Lebanese University - Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture - second branch organized an evening celebration marking the end of the academic year under the title 'See you next year,' with a large crowd of students attending, despite the stray bullets that are fired almost daily and randomly in the area from known sources. Just minutes before the start of the event, gunfire was heard from areas of 'outlawed weapons,' hitting the university and resulting in a 19-year-old young man working with the DJ team being injured by a stray bullet in his shoulder. The Kataeb students quickly rushed to assist him and contacted the Red Cross, which transported him to the military hospital in Beirut. The young man miraculously survived, as the injury was close to his head.
In light of this, the Lebanese University branch of the Kataeb expresses its condemnation of this provocative and ongoing disorder, which victimizes unarmed citizens who cherish a culture of life, while paying the price of the terror from the loose weapons associated with the statelet and the absence of a state and its authority. This is clear evidence of the existence of a principle of first-class citizens 'above the law' and second-class citizens who are not protected by the law they respect.
The Lebanese University section of the Kataeb holds accountable what remains of the state and its security agencies, which are absent in maintaining security and providing safety for citizens, especially Lebanese University students who face many challenges in their pursuit of education and building their futures. We urge the concerned authorities to control this chaos, as what occurred yesterday could affect any citizen and could lead to grave consequences."
