Law Extending the Army Chief’s Retirement Age in the Official Gazette Signed by Mikati

The latest edition of the Official Gazette published Law No. 317, which extends the retirement age of Army Commander General Joseph Aoun and the heads of security and military agencies for one year. This law bears the signature of caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati without input from the ministers.

Law No. 317

Extension of Retirement Age for the Army Commander and Heads of Security and Military Agencies

The House of Representatives has approved, and the Council of Ministers publishes based on Article 62 of the Constitution, the following law:

Article One:

1. Exceptionally and contrary to any other provision, the retirement age for the Army Commander General and the heads of security and military agencies, both military personnel, who are performing their duties in their own right, by delegation, or in substitute capacity and hold the rank of General or Major General, and are still in their positions as of the issuance of this law, is extended for one year from the date of their retirement.

2. This law comes into effect immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
