Sheikh of the Druze Community: Avoiding Provocation to a Devastating War for the Lebanese Entity

Sheikh of the Druze Community Sami Abi Al-Muna condemned the "devastating war that the Israeli occupation is waging against people, land, and humanity as a whole." He viewed the situation in Gaza as something "outrageous, characterized by crime, bloodshed, and violations of dignity; the dignity of every child, every intellectual, every woman, and every elderly person, all precious dignities being violated by the Israeli barbaric machine."

He added in a statement: "What happened by the hands of the Palestinians was the result of long-standing frustration due to the usurpation of rights and assaults on land and sanctities. It is not the act, but rather the consequence of land and rights being usurped; therefore, we look to the United Nations and the decision-making countries around the world to declare their position on the Palestinian issue and to take the initiative to grant the Palestinian people their legitimate rights, and to find a just solution that ensures security and safety for this people and their right to a decent living and sovereignty over their land."

He further stated: "However, in Lebanon, given the ongoing financial deterioration and the constitutional vacuum and institutional imbalance, the situation will be very sensitive and likely to lead to a complete collapse if provoked into war on Lebanese soil. Therefore, we must exercise reason and logic, so we can empathize with the Palestinians sincerely, seriously, and generously, without being drawn into a wide war with a criminal enemy that kills journalists and innocents without moral restraint and delights in destroying infrastructure without international deterrent. While it may be painful and deterrent to the Israelis, it would be a devastating war for the Lebanese entity in such a politically and economically complex situation."
