Tennenti: We Respect Lebanese Sovereignty and Our Patrols Will Continue According to Resolution 1701

The spokesperson for UNIFIL, Andrea Tennenti, affirmed that "our movement and activities related to Resolution 1701 are limited to southern Lebanon and our patrols will remain in place in accordance with Resolution 1701 and in coordination with the Lebanese Army." During an interview with "Al-Jadeed," he noted that "UNIFIL takes the issue of sovereignty very seriously and we respect Lebanese sovereignty." Tennenti added: "Resolution 2695 was adopted to reaffirm the requirements of Resolution 1701, and while some countries abstained from voting, all 15 members reiterated their commitment to the work that UNIFIL is doing in southern Lebanon." He stated: "We work in coordination with the Lebanese government and once again in strong partnership and coordination with the Lebanese Army, and this has not changed since last year as we have used the same terms and phrases found in Resolution 2650," pointing out that "UNIFIL's activities will continue in southern Lebanon between the Litani River and the Blue Line."
