Six days after the tragedy at the Al-Makassed hospital in Gaza, amidst conflicting reports regarding the entity responsible for the strike, particularly after Western intelligence and American indications suggested the involvement of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, no clear evidence has emerged. While Islamic Jihad categorically denied these accusations, asserting that it did not launch any rockets on the night of Tuesday, when the hospital was targeted (8:50 local time), a new response came from officials in Hamas.
Ghazi Hamad, a senior Hamas official, stated that "the rocket disintegrated like salt in water," adding, "It evaporated, and nothing of it remains," as reported by the New York Times. He continued: "You overlook all the other massacres." Meanwhile, Salama Marouf, head of the government media office run by Hamas, remarked: "Who said we are obligated to provide the remnants of every rocket that kills our people? In any case, you can come and search for yourself and verify the evidence we possess."
For its part, Israel rejected requests to provide records of all its military activities in the area during the time of the strike, according to Al Arabiya.
