After 101 days of war in the Gaza Strip, the "Times of Israel" reported today, Monday, that the Israeli army has withdrawn one of its four combat brigades from Gaza. The report stated that the withdrawal of the 36th Brigade from the area is part of strategies for a "long war with Hamas while maintaining troop efficiency." It explained that the forces of this brigade will take a short rest before resuming training, after which the army will decide whether to redeploy them and where, based on the latest assessment.
According to Israeli reports, the 36th Brigade played an important role in the fighting in Gaza over the past months, including the Golani Brigade along with infantry and engineering. Meanwhile, the 98th, 99th, and 162nd brigades remain deployed in the area.
Three Brigades Remain
There are still three combat brigades in the sector, in addition to special forces, which continue to engage in combat throughout Gaza. Earlier today, Israel moved the Duvdevan unit from special forces from Gaza to the West Bank amid concerns of escalating tensions there.
Withdrawal of the Golani Brigade
In December last year, the Israeli army withdrew the Golani Brigade from the Gaza Strip after 60 days of fighting during which it suffered significant losses, claiming to reorganize the brigade. The army also withdrew battalions from the paratroopers brigade that operates in northern and southern Gaza for the same reason.
