The Interior Minister in the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, emphasized that "we will not allow incitement against the Lebanese army and the state, and the Syrian displaced person must adhere to the law."
Mawlawi stated, after meeting with the Grand Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan at the Dar al-Fatwa, that "we continue to bear our responsibilities and monitor the security situation, and we take precautions to prevent any security incidents. From this standpoint, we are keen on organizing the Syrians in Lebanon." He considered it "essential to respect the Lebanese law, and for the Syrians present in Lebanon to be subject to the Lebanese system."
He added, "They must be registered with the relevant official authorities and have their status organized because this chaos is harmful to Lebanon, to their interests, and to the security situation for which we are responsible."
Mawlawi affirmed that "Lebanon will not be a conduit for any harm or evil that affects Arab countries, whether through drugs or anything else."
Mufti Deryan received President Hassan Diab, and they discussed the latest developments on the Lebanese and Arab fronts.
