These Foods Can Lower Cholesterol in Your Body

High cholesterol, known as the "silent killer," causes problems for cardiovascular health, increasing the risks of heart disease and stroke. A new study suggests that a particular type of food can help reduce cholesterol levels in the body by 70% compared to the drug "statin." Statins are used to lower the amount of cholesterol produced by the body. However, soybeans in their various forms can also be effective, according to recent research published by the "Express."

Soybeans are a good source of various vitamins and minerals and are credited with lowering the risks of cardiovascular diseases and strokes. The new research indicates that consuming soy flour containing the protein "β-conglycinin" has the potential to reduce levels of "bad" cholesterol in the body. Moreover, soybeans have been shown to decrease the risks of metabolic diseases such as fatty liver disease and atherosclerosis, which reduces the chances of fat accumulation in blood vessels.

Nutrition experts typically advise individuals to follow a healthy, balanced diet that includes all the nutrients needed to prevent chronic diseases like high blood pressure and cholesterol. "Express" previously quoted a nutrition expert stating that adding certain types of fish and vegetables to an individual's diet helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Nutritionist Rosie Milne said, "The best foods for reducing cholesterol and blood pressure are leafy green vegetables and fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, anchovies, trout, tuna, mackerel, and swordfish." She noted that "according to studies, omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish help lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels."

Milne highlighted that "avocado, nuts, dark chocolate, and tofu are foods that contain magnesium, which contributes to lowering blood pressure and cholesterol."
