German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock pledged to provide 15 million euros (16 million dollars) to support the Lebanese army, amid growing concerns about rising tensions at the southern Lebanese border in light of the Israeli war on Gaza. During her visit to Beirut, Baerbock indicated that the aid would be allocated for fuel purchases and medium-term measures, including training soldiers in border surveillance, aimed at helping the Lebanese army secure the southern border more effectively. In statements made during her visit to a German frigate in the Port of Beirut, she stated, "The army must be able to exert effective control in the area to contain armed groups."
