A senior advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated today, Saturday, that "Israel will seek to establish a security envelope that includes specific areas and arrangements to prevent Hamas from positioning itself along its borders after the war in Gaza." In response to a question about whether Israel is indeed looking to create such a buffer zone, Netanyahu's advisor, Mark Regev, told reporters: "Israel must have a security envelope. We can never allow fighters to cross the border again and slaughter our people as they did on October 7." Regev stated: "If you ask me about the buffer zone, let me be clear: there will be no situation in the future that allows Hamas fighters to position themselves directly at the border to cross over and kill our people again." He added: "This does not mean that Israel will take Gaza's territory... on the contrary, this means creating security areas where there is a special situation on the ground that limits people's ability to enter Israel to kill our people. This is sound logic."
