For Messi: Argentina National Team Officially Decides to Retire the Number 10 Jersey

The President of the Argentine Football Association, Claudio Tapia, announced that the legend, Lionel Messi, will be the last player to wear the number 10 jersey for the "Tango Dancers," according to media reports. Tapia stated in a press conference on Sunday: "When Messi retires from international play, we will not allow anyone else to wear the number 10 jersey." The former Barcelona star led the Argentine team to win the World Cup after exciting matches in the Qatar World Cup last winter. This was the third time the "Albiceleste" won the title, following a long absence since 1986 when the late legend, Diego Maradona, guided his country to victory in the Mexican World Cup. The first time Argentina won the title was during the World Cup held on its own soil in 1978.

It is noteworthy that Messi excelled notably in the Qatar World Cup, contributing to 10 goals for the "Tango Dancers," scoring 7 times and providing 3 assists. Not only did Messi help his country secure the top prize in football, but he is also the record holder for appearances with Argentina, being the all-time leading scorer for the national team with 106 goals in 108 international matches. Although Messi still represents the "Albiceleste," the Argentine Football Association is already planning to honor his legacy by retiring the iconic number 10 jersey, which was also worn by Maradona.
