When Should Milk Be Excluded from the Diet?

Dr. Yelena Tikhomirova, a Russian nutrition expert, announced that milk should be excluded from the diet when it causes bloating and rumbling. She points out in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru that there is a common belief that milk is not beneficial for adults and may even be harmful, but this belief is only 50% true. She states, "The pancreas secretes the enzyme lactase, which breaks down lactose (milk sugar) into glucose and galactose, which are later absorbed in the intestines without any negative consequences for the body. However, some people experience a decrease in the activity of lactase as they age and sometimes lose it completely."

She further explains that in this case, individuals may experience uncomfortable phenomena in the abdomen, such as bloating and rumbling, after consuming milk. She suggests, "In this case, one should replace milk with another alternative, such as lactose-free milk, or exclude milk entirely from the diet." The expert emphasizes that there are no restrictions on milk consumption if the body's reaction is normal. She adds, "All prevailing opinions advising adults against drinking milk are unfounded because milk is an ideal product that contains carbohydrates, healthy fats easily absorbed, and proteins that are ideal and safe for the adult body. Therefore, if a person does not suffer any negative consequences from drinking milk, they can continue to do so."
