Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan canceled his campaign events today, Wednesday, for health reasons, ahead of the elections scheduled for May 14. Erdogan wrote on Twitter: "Today I will rest at home based on my doctors' advice."
The Turkish president experienced a sudden health issue during a live interview, which led to its interruption yesterday, Tuesday. After a prolonged pause in the live broadcast, Erdogan returned to the air and said: "I wish you health. There has been a lot of work in the campaign yesterday and today. Therefore, I developed a stomach inflammation. I even thought about canceling the program. But we promised and came. I apologize to you and our viewers."
The spokesperson for the Turkish presidency, Ibrahim Kalin, announced that President Erdogan's health is fine, writing on Twitter: "Our president, thank God, is in good health."
The sole opposition candidate in the Turkish presidential elections, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, wished Erdogan a speedy recovery. Similarly, the leader of the "Good Party," Meral Akşener, wished the Turkish president a quick recovery.
