A report from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) indicated today, Monday, that the shortage of cholera vaccines is likely to continue until 2025, amid a global increase in outbreak hotspots. GAVI noted that there are currently enough doses to meet urgent demand, but not for proactive preventive purposes, highlighting that "48 million vaccine doses have been used in the past two years, an increase of ten million compared to the entire previous decade." The report further stated: "Supplies could improve by 2026, with existing companies ramping up vaccine production and a new company entering the market," calling for better planning to ensure that vaccines are used when critically needed, including in preventive campaigns.
