British MP Nadine Dorries launched a scathing attack on Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak in her official resignation speech, accusing the Prime Minister of running a "zombie parliament" and lacking any political vision. Dorries formally submitted her resignation on Saturday, accompanied by a lengthy letter in which she strongly criticized Sunak, stating: "Since you took office a year ago, you have been managing the country with a zombie parliament without achieving anything significant. What exactly have you accomplished?"
She added: "You are holding the position of Prime Minister without being elected or receiving a single vote, not even from the members of your own party. You have no mandate from the people and the government is aimless. You have squandered the goodwill of the nation, for what?"
A by-election is likely to be held in the fall to choose a replacement for Dorries, which will put the popularity of the Conservative Party to another test, as it trails behind the opposition Labour Party in opinion polls.
