U.S. Urges Iran and Pakistan to Exercise Restraint

The U.S. State Department today urged all parties involved in the ongoing tensions between Iran and Pakistan to exercise restraint. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated that Pakistan's remarks about the importance of cooperative relationships with neighboring countries are "constructive and beneficial." This comes after Pakistan launched strikes on separatist militants inside Iran in a retaliatory attack, following two days after Tehran announced it had targeted the bases of another group within Pakistani territory.

In another context, Matthew Miller mentioned that "there is no way to resolve the long-term security challenges facing Israel in the region, and the short-term challenges of rebuilding Gaza, except by establishing a Palestinian state." He noted during a press briefing that "Israel currently has an opportunity, as countries in the region are prepared to offer security guarantees to Israel."
