Sudan announced today, Monday, that it will resume diplomatic relations with Iran. The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that "the decision to resume relations came after a number of high-level communications between the two countries and that it will serve their mutual interests." Sudan had severed diplomatic ties with Iran in 2016 following the attack on the Saudi Arabian embassy in Tehran. The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying, "The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Sudan have decided to resume their diplomatic relations... both sides also agreed to take the necessary measures to open their embassies soon and to make arrangements for official delegations to discuss ways to develop cooperation between the two countries."
