The Dawn newspaper reported today, Wednesday, that former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been sentenced to 14 years in prison in a case related to the sale of state gifts. The ruling, issued by an anti-corruption court in Islamabad, comes a day after Khan was sentenced to ten years in another case in which he was convicted of revealing state secrets, and just a week before the general elections. Another court had previously sentenced Khan to three years in August for selling gifts valued over 140 million rupees (501,000 dollars) that he had received during his tenure as prime minister from 2018 to 2022. The sentence was later suspended, but Khan remains imprisoned on other charges. He stated that he purchased the gifts legally. Government officials claimed that Khan's aides sold the gifts in Dubai.
