The U.S. Senate has rejected a resolution that would have required the State Department to produce a report within 30 days to determine whether Israel had committed human rights violations in its war against Hamas in Gaza. As the voting continued, 54 senators voted against the resolution, preventing its advancement in the 100-member Senate. The vote was prompted by Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent aligned with members of the Democratic Party. Despite the easy rejection of the resolution, it reflects growing concern among some of President Joe Biden's Democratic colleagues, particularly the left wing, regarding the supply of U.S. weapons to Israel amid the heavy toll on Palestinian civilians from the conflict in Gaza.
