Afghan Embassy in India Suspends Operations

Three officials from the Afghan Embassy in India stated today, Friday, that "the embassy has suspended all operations after the ambassador and other senior diplomats left the country, heading to Europe and the United States, where they have obtained asylum." The officials mentioned that "at least five Afghan diplomats have left India." One of them noted that "the Indian government will temporarily take over the diplomatic compound." India does not recognize the Taliban government and closed its embassy in Kabul after the group took control of Afghanistan in 2021. However, New Delhi allowed the ambassador and staff appointed by the ousted Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's government to issue visas and handle commercial matters.
