Basil: Any Talk of Negotiating Land Borders is a Violation of the Constitution

The head of the "Free Patriotic Movement," MP Gebran Bassil, tweeted: "On the anniversary of the July 12, 2006 aggression, we affirm Lebanon's right to resist in order to recover all our rights over the land and sovereignty over it. We are astonished by the government's actions stating that 'Lebanon has informed the United Nations of its readiness to delineate the southern borders along the Blue Line.' He added, 'This statement represents a blatant constitutional violation, as negotiations are primarily the responsibility of the President of the Republic, in accordance with the oath.' Bassil said, 'There is no such thing as delineating land borders; they are already delineated and internationally recognized based on the 1923 Polievsky-Newcomb Agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 425, which calls for Israel's withdrawal to the international borders.' The head of the movement concluded, 'No concession on a grain of Lebanese land, and any talk of negotiating land borders is a violation of the constitution and a suspicious act, exposing those who engage in it to accountability. As for the matter of the two tents and Ghajar, that is another issue, and Hochstein's activity in the region is another matter altogether.'"
