France Intensifies Security Measures Amid Terrorism Fears

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin stated today, Friday, that a large number of police and army forces will be deployed in preparation for the New Year's celebrations this weekend due to the "very high" terrorist threat facing the country. Darmanin explained that around 90,000 police will be deployed across France, with 6,000 in Paris. Additionally, 5,000 soldiers from the "Sentinelle" unit, formed to address terrorist threats, will be dispatched. Darmanin told reporters, "I have called for very significant participation from the police and security forces due to the very high level of terrorist threat because of what is happening in Israel and Palestine, of course." European security officials have warned of the increasing risk of attacks by Islamists who have become radicalized due to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
