MPs Najat Aoun, Paula Yacoubian, Yassine Yassine, Firas Hamdan, and Melhem Khalaf stated in a press release today, Friday, that "the statement from the Deputy Governors of the Central Bank is striking in its timing, format, and content, as if they are crying out for help just three weeks before the end of the Central Bank Governor's term." They considered that "this statement is an admission of the severity of the monetary policy pursued by the Central Bank, which has been sponsored by the Governor amid unprecedented corruption over the years, especially in recent years, and who has become a wanted figure in multiple countries."
The MPs added, "This statement is an indictment against the traditional political forces that have failed to adopt a comprehensive economic recovery plan for more than four years, as if they intentionally refrained from enacting this plan to pounce on people's deposits and deplete them in a coordinated scheme with the banks."
They pointed out that it is "a covert announcement expressing an imminent dramatic collapse that could occur at any moment, which may coincide with a vacuum in the position of the Central Bank Governor and the inability to appoint a new governor, along with the resignation of the four deputy governors mentioned."
The MPs declared their "absolute rejection of any extension for the current Central Bank Governor, which has begun to be whispered about in the corridors, and we call on our fellow MPs to recognize the seriousness of the mentioned statement and the gravity of the tragic reality we have reached; there can be no new Central Bank Governor without a new government, and no new government without the election of a new President."
