New images have demonstrated a single strip of eerie, wavy green light recently swaying across the night sky above Iceland, interrupting the typical aurora borealis. This extremely rare phenomenon is the result of large waves vibrating in Earth's magnetic field, caused by the collision of solar particles with our planet. Astronomical photographer Jeff Dai, a member of The World at Night (TWAN) project, discovered this undulating light display over Lake Kerid, a crater lake in southern Iceland, on January 16, as reported by Spaceweather.com. Dai noted in an Instagram post that the unusual phenomenon, known as "aurora wrinkle," lasted "for several minutes" before completely disappearing.
