A video captured by chance reveals details of a deadly shark attack that claimed the life of a 76-year-old man swimming in the waters of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Canadian Joseph Benitez was swimming when the predator bit him, severing most of his leg, while a woman enjoyed her time on the beach with her daughter. The fatal incident was filmed in the background of a video showing a woman named Marlene Lufiano playing with her young daughter on the beach.
The terrifying footage shows Benitez swimming and waving for help before being dragged underwater, according to the New York Post. Lufiano, who filmed the video by accident, stated, "We were enjoying our morning at the beach, but we heard something in the water," adding that the man was rescued but was bleeding heavily. She noted, "When they pulled him from the water, the wound was already evident. I noticed there was no blood coming out anymore," indicating that he bled to death.
The man died from blood loss, while his companion, who was also bitten by the same creature, was treated in the hospital. Initially, it was believed that a shark was responsible, but doctors later found that the injuries were more consistent with a crocodile bite.
