China Strengthens Talks with Myanmar on Border Stability

The Chinese government indicated today, Saturday, that "senior Chinese officials have held talks with Myanmar, amid increasing concerns in Beijing regarding border security and fraud schemes, as rebel groups intensify their campaign against the military council in Myanmar." The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: "Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong visited Myanmar from Thursday to Saturday and met with the head of the military council, Min Aung Hlaing, to discuss issues including border stability and combating fraud." China's dissatisfaction, a major ally of the military council and enjoying close ties with some ethnic armed groups along the shared border of the two countries, has grown in recent months due to the military council's inaction in closing fraud centers targeting Chinese citizens.
