The White House stated that "National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan discussed with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani today the importance of stopping attacks on American military personnel in Iraq and Syria." The statement clarified that "the two men, who met in Davos, Switzerland, discussed several other issues, including the Iranian ballistic missile attacks on Erbil yesterday and the importance of maintaining a strong partnership between the United States and Iraq." During the meeting, Al-Sudani emphasized his "rejection of any action that violates Iraq's sovereignty and the need for direct response, particularly to the recent American aggression in Baghdad," while also affirming the government's commitment to "counter any attacks targeting the bases housing international coalition advisors." He noted in the statement the "turmoil in the region due to the continuing aggressive war on Gaza," affirming that "regional stability and efforts to limit the expansion of conflict begin with stopping the genocide targeting the Palestinian people, which violates international law," reiterating the necessity to work towards ensuring Palestinians have the right to live with dignity on their land.
