European company Airbus has secured a historic deal to sell 500 narrow-body aircraft to Indian airline Indigo at the opening of the Paris Air Show. Airbus will deliver the aircraft between 2030 and 2035. Indigo's CEO, Pieter Elbers, stated, "This is just the beginning, and there is more to come in the future. With the growth of India and the Indian aviation market, this is the right time for us to place this order." After signing the agreement with the Indian company, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury mentioned that "it is too early to think about increasing the production rate of narrow-body aircraft beyond the planned 75 per month." Sources indicate that Indigo is holding separate talks with both Airbus and its competitor Boeing to acquire 25 wide-body aircraft, which could either be the Airbus A330neo or Boeing 787. Airbus faces challenges in restoring production rates to pre-COVID-19 levels and has had to postpone its target, originally set for 2025, to 2026. Faury noted that supply disruptions would be a relatively short-term issue given the delivery timelines starting from the next decade.
