Minister of Education and Higher Education Abas Halabi has made a call to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, urging him to "pressure the Israeli government to work on shielding schools in Lebanon from bombing and military operations." Minister Halabi condemned the Israeli bombing of the public school in Aita al-Shaab, which was empty of students, emphasizing that "public and private schools are buildings designated for teaching and can be used in emergencies to shelter residents or for relief and humanitarian efforts." Halabi confirmed that "newly built, renovated, and equipped schools will resume receiving students as soon as calm returns to the southern border area, and they must remain ready without any damage."
