The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced the death of two Israeli tourists and their Egyptian guide in a shooting attack in Alexandria.
In detail, while one of the Israeli tourist groups was visiting the Pillar of Pompey site in the Mansheya area of Alexandria, an assigned police officer opened fire randomly with his personal weapon, resulting in the deaths of two group members and one Egyptian, and injuring another.
Two security sources confirmed to Reuters that a policeman, said to be the shooter, has been detained. One of the Egyptian sources quoted the policeman as saying to Reuters that he lost control of his weapon and fired randomly at the tourist group after being provoked.
The shooting occurred a day after the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, launched a surprise attack on Israel, which in turn vowed to respond with "heavy retaliation." Hundreds of Israelis and Palestinians have been killed since Saturday. Other reports have also emerged about the killing of additional Israeli tourists in Sinai.
