Jordan Bombs Warehouses of Iran-Linked Smugglers in Syria

In a recent operation along the Jordanian-Syrian border, local and regional intelligence sources reported early Friday that Jordan launched several airstrikes inside Syria targeting warehouses and hideouts of drug smugglers connected to Iran. The military intensified its campaign against drug traffickers following prolonged clashes last month with dozens of infiltrators from Syria linked to Iran-allied factions, who crossed the border carrying large quantities of weapons and explosives. The Jordanian army had previously reported on December 19 that it seized substantial amounts of weapons and drugs during clashes on the northern border. The military also confirmed the deaths and injuries of several smugglers and the arrest of 9 individuals as a result of the border skirmishes. At that time, airstrikes by Jordanian warplanes targeted sites in the southern Syrian provinces of Daraa and Suwayda. It is noteworthy that the Jordanian army also announced the arrest of smugglers and the seizure of quantities of weapons, rockets, and landmines following intense border confrontations.
