Richard Masters, the Chief Executive of the Premier League, announced today that "a hearing date has been set regarding the alleged financial rule violations by Manchester City." Masters told the Culture, Media and Sport Committee in Parliament, "A date has been set for these proceedings, but unfortunately I cannot disclose it; however, progress is being made." He stated that "the allegations against City, which is aiming to win the Premier League title for the fourth consecutive time this season, are different from those against Everton and Nottingham Forest." He added, "If any club, whether current champions or otherwise, is found to have violated spending rules, they will be in the same position as Everton or Nottingham Forest." Masters continued, "However, the scale and nature of the allegations against Manchester City, which clearly I cannot speak about, are being considered in a completely different context." When the allegations were announced in February, City stated that it welcomed "the review of this matter by an independent committee to neutrally examine the comprehensive set of compelling evidence available to support its position."
