The chief Shia mufti, Sheikh Ahmad Qablan, stated in a statement that "political disagreements do not justify some being Zionist, and the external relations of political forces do not justify acting as mercenaries for Washington, Brussels, Tel Aviv, or regional capitals. Silence may be acceptable except regarding the sovereignty of Lebanon and the necessities of civil peace and national unity. The solution lies in crushing the Western hegemony that imposes political rifts on some in order to undermine national ties. The unity of Lebanon is a red line that is worth all sacrifices and resources. There is no exit for the country except through a presidential settlement for the benefit of Lebanon, not for the benefit of Washington and the other empires of ruin. Lebanon will only be Lebanon with its sovereignty, political decision, and national unity. Beware of the Zionization of some Lebanese stances, as patience is commendable except when it comes to the Zionization of Lebanon."
