British Official Visits Beirut: Lebanon Must Not Be Drawn into Regional Conflict

The British embassy announced in a statement that "the Chief Advisor to the UK Ministry of Defence for the Middle East and North Africa, Air Marshal Martin Sampson, concluded his visit to Lebanon, which lasted two days from October 18 to 19, as part of a regional tour that included Egypt and Jordan, aimed at reassuring UK partners in the region and demonstrating support."

It was noted that "Marshal Sampson met with the Commander of the Lebanese Army, General Joseph Aoun, and Prime Minister Najib Mikati. He affirmed the UK’s steadfast support for the Lebanese people and the Lebanese Army during his discussions. Additionally, in a phone call with the head of the UNIFIL mission and its commander, Major General Aroldo Lazaro, he conveyed the UK’s support for UNIFIL and its important role in maintaining calm and stability. At Hamat Air Base, he was briefed on several British military training missions in Lebanon and the joint military exercise 'Pegasus Cedar,' which was the largest joint military training ever for the UK with the Lebanese Commando Regiment."

At the end of his visit, Sampson stated: "It is an important time to visit Lebanon amidst the current regional instability. During my meetings, I confirmed the UK's position that Lebanon must not be drawn into regional conflict." He added: "The Lebanese Army remains at the forefront of efforts to protect security and stability, which is a priority for the UK."
