Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolienko indicated today, Saturday, that the "joint statement of the G20 regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine is not something to take pride in," criticizing the text for not mentioning Russia. Nikolienko wrote on his official Facebook account, stating, "It is clear that the participation of the Ukrainian side in the G20 meeting would have allowed participants to better understand the situation."
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, for his part, said, "The G20 summit declaration agreed upon today demonstrated a clear stance on the Russian invasion of Ukraine," asserting that "the territorial integrity of states cannot be questioned through violence." Scholz added, "It is a statement that supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine." The G20 adopted a consensus declaration that refrained from condemning Russia for its war against Ukraine, but called on all countries to refrain from using force to seize territory.
