Taiwan Reports Resurgence of Chinese Military Activities in Its Surroundings

Taiwan reported today, Sunday, observing a resurgence of Chinese military activities around the island, with nine aircraft crossing a sensitive line in the Taiwan Strait and naval vessels conducting "combat readiness patrols." China considers Taiwan part of its territory. Taiwan, which has a democratic government, has complained that China has repeatedly conducted military patrols and exercises near the island over the past four years as part of Beijing's efforts to pressure Taipei regarding its sovereignty claims. Chinese military activities around Taiwan had decreased when Chinese President Xi Jinping was in San Francisco last week for the APEC summit, where he met U.S. President Joe Biden. However, Taiwan's defense ministry stated that as of this morning, it had detected the crossing of nine Chinese fighter jets over the median line in the Taiwan Strait, which is an unofficial dividing line between the two sides, but Chinese aircraft frequently fly over it.
