Israeli website "Walla" correspondent, Mer Bouhbot, reported on his X account that Salah al-Arouri, the deputy head of Hamas's political bureau, was the primary target of a special Shin Bet unit created to target the movement's activists abroad. He added that the Israeli security agency has become more active against Hamas, whether in Gaza, the West Bank, or abroad. Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar recently discussed the expansion of the agency's responsibilities and the intent of the security service to reach all Hamas leaders anywhere in the world, including Lebanon. The Israeli army has so far denied responsibility for the assassination of al-Arouri, which also resulted in the deaths of five other people on Tuesday. Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated that he would not comment on these reports, adding, "We are focused on fighting Hamas." According to Bouhbot, this is not the first time Shin Bet has carried out an assassination of a Hamas official in Lebanon. Last November, it was reported that Khalil Hamid al-Kharaz, deputy head of Hamas's Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades in Lebanon, was killed in an Israeli raid in southern Lebanon, but the Israeli army had not claimed responsibility for that incident at the time.
