Authors and Researchers from 7 Countries Win

The Katara Cultural Village Foundation in Qatar announced today, Friday, the names of the winners of the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel in its ninth edition, which is awarded in five categories with a total value of $345,000.

In the published novel category, the award went to Omani Mohammed Al-Yahya'i for the novel "The War," Egyptian Ashraf Al-Ashmawy for the novel "The Secret Society of Citizens," and Egyptian Rasha Adly for the novel "You Shine.. You Illuminate."

The award in the unpublished novel category was won by Syrian Mohammed Turki Al-Dhafis for the novel "A City Inhabited by Madness," Egyptian Rami Raafat for the novel "Komala, Son of Fire.. and His Journey in the Realms of Giants," and Algerian Mustafa Bouri for the novel "The Last Rehearsals."

In the category of critical studies and research, the winners were Egyptian Mohammed Zidan for the study "The Rhetoric of Contemporary Novel Text," Moroccan Saeed Ben Lahcen Ouabou for the study "On the Culture of Contemporary Arabic Novel," and Egyptian Nahla Raheel for the study "Identities Reconciling: Intersectionality of Gender and Race in Feminist Autobiography."

In the Young Adult Novels category, the winners were Moroccan Farid Al-Khamal for the novel "The Harish," Egyptian Ahmed Touson for the novel "The Handkerchief Seller," and Lebanese Abdul Majid Hussein Zarqt for the novel "The Amazing Journey of the Sons of the Moon."

The award in the category of published Qatari novel was won by Abdul Rahman bin Salem Al-Kuwari for the novel "Semidra."

Each winner in the categories of published novel, unpublished novel, and critical studies and research receives $30,000, while each winner in the Young Adult Novels category receives $15,000, and the winner in the published Qatari novel category receives $30,000.
