The Public Relations Department of the Beirut Municipality reported that, in compliance with the directives of Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud to intensify patrols in the streets and neighborhoods of Beirut to reassure the residents of the capital and to reduce incidents of theft and pickpocketing committed by lawbreakers, a patrol from the Beirut Guard Brigade arrested two Lebanese individuals on a motorcycle in downtown Beirut at 9 PM on October 13, 2023. The pair attempted to run over the patrol officers after being surprised by their presence; the passenger of the motorcycle dismounted and fled. However, the patrol members managed to capture him shortly after a brief chase.
Upon searching them, a military pistol, a knife, several identities and credit cards, and a sum of money were found in their possession. Additionally, a women's bag containing documents, credit cards, and cash was discovered, later found to belong to a woman named M.N. whom they had robbed in the Antelias area prior to their arrest by the Guard Brigade. It was revealed that they both had prior criminal records and attempted to bribe the patrol officers to let them go. They were promptly taken into custody along with the confiscated items and handed over to the relevant authorities for legal action.
On the same day, a patrol from the Beirut Guard Brigade arrested two Syrian individuals in the BIEL area who were using hashish. One of them fled upon seeing the patrol, but was apprehended after a chase and taken into custody along with his companion and the confiscated items for legal action.
Additionally, while on patrol in the Gemmayze area, the Beirut Guard officers heard cries for help coming from one of the buildings. They discovered that a man in his seventies was attempting to commit suicide by jumping from the third floor of the building, while his daughter was trying to dissuade him. The patrol members quickly went to the apartment, brought him inside, and worked to calm him down. Once they were assured of his well-being, they left the scene.
