Supervisors from the Formula 1 World Championship teams were requested to ensure that eye protection was provided for technicians in the pit lane after numerous violations were observed during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race of the current season on Sunday. The supervisors summoned all team managers after the race to respond to allegations that team members were not wearing the mandatory goggles while entering the pit lane during the races.
Subsequently, the race supervisors issued a statement saying that the video presented as evidence was not clear enough at times to prove whether any team member was wearing an open-face helmet around the eye area or possibly wearing glasses. They added, "Nevertheless, there were several instances of no eye protection being used; the safety of team members is of utmost importance." All teams are required to emphasize the importance of eye protection for all individuals working on the car and ensure that all team members adhere to these instructions in the future." No penalties were imposed.
