Title: WHO Expresses Concern Over Possible Failure to Reach Pandemic Accord

Today, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed concern about the possibility that countries may not meet the deadline set for May to finalize negotiations and adopt a binding treaty on pandemics. He stated in a speech before the WHO executive board, "I must say I am concerned that member states may not fulfill this commitment." He added, "In my view, any failure to reach an agreement on pandemics and amendments to international health regulations would be a missed opportunity that future generations may not forgive us for."
