A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck the city of Malatya in central Turkey today, Thursday. The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) stated in a report that "the epicenter of the quake was in the Battalgazi district, at a depth of 6.99 kilometers." There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake. In this context, earthquake specialist Tony Nemer noted that "the tremor this afternoon, measuring 5.3 in magnitude in southeastern Turkey, is part of the aftershocks following the events of February 6, 2023. Its impact on changing ground stresses on the seismic faults is local, although it was felt by some residents in Beirut, Damascus, and Nicosia."
