The price of tickets for Argentine star Lionel Messi's first match with "Inter Miami" has surpassed $1,000 on online sales platforms. This comes after club owner Jorge Mas announced that "the highly anticipated match on July 21 against Mexican Club Cruz Azul at Lockhart Stadium could be his first possible appearance."
"Inter Miami" currently sits at the bottom of the US soccer league, having suffered six consecutive losses, but enthusiasm in the city has reached its peak, raising expectations with Messi's arrival, who may join his new club on July 5. Ticket prices for all of the team's matches have increased through the end of the season.
Just minutes after the announcement of Messi's signing on June 7, the price of tickets for the Leagues Cup match between "Inter Miami" and "Cruz Azul" jumped from around $40 to over $500, with no tickets currently available for less than $1,100 on online sales platforms.
Lockhart Stadium, located in Fort Lauderdale about 50 km from Miami, has a capacity of 19,000 fans, and the club intends to make renovations in the next four weeks to increase the capacity to 22,000. Many tickets are being resold for prices exceeding $10,000.
Prices for all of Messi's new team's matches have risen through the end of the season; for example, the ticket price at California Bank Stadium in Los Angeles for the match between Los Angeles and Inter Miami on September 3 has surpassed $400.
