The International Association of Athletics Federations announced in a statement following the General Assembly meeting in Budapest today, Thursday, that Sebastian Co has been re-elected as President of the organization for a third term. Raul Chapado, Adele Somaruwaala, and Jackson Tui were elected as vice presidents alongside the Colombian Zimena Restrepo, who was re-elected. The federation added that it has achieved the minimum promise it made to itself in 2016 by electing 13 members of each gender to the World Athletics Council. Co stated, "I am very grateful for the support of my colleagues and I am pleased that more of the commitments we made during the structural reform process in 2016 have borne fruit with the election of the first gender-balanced council in our federation four years ahead of schedule." He added, "But the mission is not yet over, and we need to continue pushing for gender equality across all our member federations." The International Association of Athletics Federations has a deadline until the General Assembly scheduled for 2027 to meet the remaining requirements of the 2016 reform plan regarding having vice presidents of each gender.
