The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, described the decision by several countries to suspend funding for the agency as "shocking," urging them to reconsider their decisions. Lazzarini stated in a statement: "These decisions threaten the humanitarian work currently underway in the region, especially in Gaza." Nine countries suspended funding for UNRWA following allegations of involvement by some agency staff in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.
