French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné will arrive in Beirut this weekend. This visit comes at a time when Lebanon is experiencing an influx of European envoys, following visits from British Foreign Minister David Cameron and Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. This is happening concurrently with reports about meetings taking place abroad concerning the progress of negotiations regarding Gaza and the commencement of the first phase, which will involve a ceasefire lasting 45 days. Amidst all these developments, alongside visits from foreign ministers to Lebanon and meetings of the ambassadors of the Quintet Committee (United States, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, France), efforts are intensifying to strongly push for the election of a president, decoupling the presidency from the Gaza conflict, and taking advantage of the ceasefire to pass the presidential mandate.
