Kuwait's official television announced today, Saturday, the death of the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The Minister of the Amiri Diwan Affairs in Kuwait, Sheikh Mohammed Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, stated: "With deep sadness and sorrow, we announce to the people of Kuwait and to the Arab and Islamic nations, as well as to the friendly nations of the world, the passing of the late Emir of the country, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who returned to his Lord today, Saturday." Kuwaiti television had interrupted its usual programming today, broadcasting instead a recitation of the Quran, potentially signaling the death of a member of the ruling family. The Emir had been hospitalized at the end of November due to a health emergency.
